Installing puppy on a usb key
Ok, first of all, it didn't work for me, but try one at least, and see if it works for you. I know it does for other's
These are the screenshots of my installation on my usb key
Problem, it works a couple of time, and then it desn't boot anymore (it boots a couple of times and then,
usually after i switch OS in between, because i've got dual booting, it doesn't want to boot anymore,. It goes directly to Grub) Doesn't work with mbrfat.bin either. So the only thing that seems to work for me , is accompagnied with the live cd to boot
Bad usb key? Don't think so. Because i tried it with an sd card to, and it s exactly the same result
- Tried with a 2 Gb usb key and a 2Gb sd card = same results
- one thing that works when it don't boot, it's to boot it with the cd, then it uses my usb key with all the saved settings
from the usb
- i tried,default, mbr.bin, mbrfat.bin, and sys-nopart.mbr. None of them worked for me. Didn't try the last one spb2_mbr.bin.
Maybe i should
- it don't boots, it goes directly to GRUB offering me xp or Ubuntu. i've got a dual boot xp pro + ubuntu 8.04
- I alway's shutdown the computer, i don't restart it.
- i did change the bios so it boots to usb, and it did work for a couple of time, then it stops working
- Booting in the BIOS, USB=first, CD=second, harddisk=Third
Trying something else
- i tried to put the sfs file (pup_412.sfs and up_save.2fs) at the root /,on my sd card, formatted in fat16. Boot with a cd ,
but it seems the cd was searching it in an ext2 or ext3 don't remember exactly. So didn't work, had to stop the computer
with the power button
- i must say i had problem copying them..can you open these file with a text editor, if so didn't see nothing in one of them
Trying something else 2
- CONTEXT : When doing this, had the live cd running, whit the usb key plugged in (cause it seems that,s where all my conf are saved, and at least that work's)
- I've added a usb flash card reader, and redone the process on a sd card
- I've format my usb key in ext2, with bootflag
- Used the Universall installer, everything default, except for mbr.bin
- cp:cannot stat /initrd/mnt/dev_save/zdrv_*.sfs no such file or directory
- It said finished, press enter. So i did
- Restarted the whole thing, whit only the flash card reader plugged in. Wen't directly to GRUB
- Restarted the whole thing, but plugged in my usb key to. Wen't directly to GRUB
- So restarted, with the live cd and my usb key. It booted and had my saved conf
- So the end of it is that it doesn't work either. Like wolf_pup says, it is cursed
